Deltona Regional Library grand opening welcomes thousands

The expanded Deltona Regional Library and its new neighbors – the Lyonia Environmental Center and the Deltona Amphitheater – opened in grand fashion with a community celebration on Saturday, Oct. 17. An estimated 4,000 residents attended and were excited to see first hand the expanded library, amphitheater and an environmental center. The special day was years in the making.

Activities throughout the Oct. 17 grand opening kept all corners of the complex bustling with activity. Children enjoyed hands on activities in the Alice Cross Environmental Classrooms, art project with Sang Roberson and Alberto Gomez, games, treasure hunts and more.

Volusia County Chair Bruno thanked many who made the celebration and facility possible, including the City of Deltona Commission. Deltona officials contributed $2 million toward the building of the amphitheater and have committed to fund the maintenance and operation of the facility for at least the next 10 years.

The auditorium featured nearly 30 exhibits and displays by environmental and community groups. The amphitheater was alive with music, dancing and signing all day, culminating with a Caribbean Crew concert.

With free admission all day, visitors enjoyed seeing the new Lyonia Environmental Center, too, with its interactive displays, gift shop and Bagel King Café. Through the hallways, patrons also stopped to check out and exhibit by the Southeast Museum of Photography featuring works by Lee Dunkel.

If you didn’t get a chance to see the new complex, we welcome you! The expanded Deltona Library is open Sundays from 1 - 5 p.m., Mondays - Thursdays from 9:30 - 7:30 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
